Welcome May!

Has summer finally arrived in your neck of the woods?  As I type this, here in New England, it's currently 52 degrees Fahrenheit.  So, it's still quite chilly!  I am so ready for summer to arrive.

Here are some fun activities you can do this May. They are great to do with the kiddos.  Enjoy this Eco-Friendly Bingo!  See if you can get all the activities on the board.

Eco-Friendly Bing

Ditch single use plastic for the month of May- Single use plastic is one of the biggest contributors to pollution in the oceans.  It poses a threat to wildlife.  They can eat it or get ensnared in it.  Furthermore, single use plastic is not biodegradable, it persists in the environment for hundreds of years.

Plant a Tree-  Trees are crucial to our ecosystem.  The provide habitat and food for wildlife.  They also absorb carbon from the atmosphere.  If you personally can't plant a tree research and support organizations that plant trees.

Use a reusable shopping bag- Most conventional shopping bags are made of single use plastic.  Bring your own reusable shopping bag on your next shopping trip.

Shop local- May is a great month to shop local.  Support local businesses and help reduce your carbon footprint by shopping locally.  May is also the month when farmer's markets began to open.

Eat organic-Try to buy organic produce this month.  Organic is better for you and the environment because harmful pesticides and herbicides are not used.

Eat plant based meals- Meat production uses a lot of resources and has a large carbon footprint.

Plant a garden- Plant a garden in your yard, you can plant food, herbs, or flowers.  Gardens are beautiful and they attract pollinators, like bees.  If you can't plant a garden outside, grow herbs inside.  Mint, basil, and cilantro can be grown indoors.

Unplug-This is a easy one.  Unplug electronics when not in use.  It will save energy and money!

Walk or bike- You can walk or bike to work or on you next errand.  Walking/biking is a very Eco-Friendly form of transportation.

🥂Cheers to May!
